Half Lives Hide Permanence

Disappearing Dungeness

Looking at this you might expect that the hide (for I assume that is what it is) would not have lasted the 10 years or so since this photo was taken and the nuclear power station behind it would continue its eerie hum for ever.

One looks frail, the other looked nothing less than permanent. The incongruity appeals to me.

But it is the hide that has survived. The last time I visited Dungeness the nuclear power station was a pile of rubble (following its decommissioning, not a Chornobyl type event).

The hide continues. As does the rest of the superficial impermanence that cloaks Dungeness.

From the other side, 7 years ago:

Beach, Dungeness

I would never have guessed there were two nuclear reactors behind it from looking at the photo.
